The Israeli government has announced plans to manufacture the first fully functional black Mercedes-Benz SUV by a top Israeli automaker.
In a statement issued Monday, the Ministry of Economic Affairs said the project will use the latest Mercedes-branded SUV in Israel, which will also feature new headlights and a new roof, as well as an LED screen that will replace the existing standard blue lights.
“The company will manufacture a fully functional vehicle in Israel for the public to enjoy on its own terms, without any restrictions,” it said.
The Ministry of Economy said the vehicle will be based on the Mercedes-class and the project is expected to be completed in 2019.
Israel’s Ministry of Defense has already ordered several SUVs from Mercedes-based manufacturer BMW.
Last year, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his government will produce and sell 100,000 SUVs over the next four years.
It is unclear whether the new vehicle will have black body color, or if the vehicle’s interior will feature a white exterior.
